Steamboat Springs Free Concert Series featuring Bruce Hornsby

Summer is incredible in the West, especially in Colorado.  Colorado offers many opportunities for fun ranging from camping and hiking to brewery visits and concerts.  Colorado is a place where music is abundant.  It is a part of the culture of Colorado.  Many towns in western Colorado offer a variety of music, most of it free.

Steamboat Springs, Colorado offers two main series of music, one is the Steamboat Free Concert Series.  The other is the Steamboat Resort Concert series offered by Steamboat Resorts.  Both bring high quality acts in from artists traveling through Denver.  Denver offers a huge amount of shows in most genres, which is opportunity for all the towns nearby.  Artists and venues have restrictions on when and how far away a show can compete with other towns.  Steamboat Springs is three hours from Denver.  A perfect location to work with the bands that are visiting Colorado.

Steamboat Springs Free Concert Series is a home grown series that started over 25 years ago.  Names like Dr. John, James Brown, Johnny Lang, and Ziggy Marley have all brought joy to residents and tourists.  The concerts occur in the evening.  Once they were held on County Hall’s lawn.  Eventually the concerts became so popular, they moved to nearby Howelson Hill.  Now bands play below the first alpine ski jumps built in the United States.

Upcoming shows are Bruce Hornsby and the Noisemakers, Booker T, and Robert Randolph and the Family Band.

In the past, several hundred persons would attend, but that isn’t today.  James Brown visited a few times, and had a local bridge named after him.  The town really liked his shows.  Other big names came through town too and audiences were home town small.  Today, between 2000 and 6000 people will attend a concert.  Never is it a problem for concert goers to find space or a parking spot.  Getting to the stage is less than a couple blocks away.

Steamboat Resort brings in many artists.  Being a large corporation, they leverage their concerts with Bud Light.  The concerts are held in Gondola Square, a contemporary and western area surrounded by shops, restaurants, and of course, the Gondola.  The view of the ski hill from Gondola Square is excellent.

Steamboat Resorts brings in artists year-round, with emphasis on Summer, and the end of ski season.  For this year, Steamboat Resorts has not released their line up of artists, but expect that to happen soon.  You can find out more about resort concerts here.
